What Happened

BAIC FOTON has achieved another breakthrough in direct sales to key large-volume clients for heavy-duty trucks across the African market, with an order of 800 trucks successfully shipped under a full-fleet delivery model. Africa is one of the world’s most promising commercial-vehicle markets, with Southeast Africa serving as a core hub for cross-border logistics thanks to access to multiple major ports. The order supports local cross-border logistics and trunk-haul transportation, and BAIC FOTON describes it as another landmark achievement of its long-term engagement in Africa. The company says the move signals a strategic upgrade from pure vehicle sales to a provider of fleet operation solutions on the continent.

Trucks shipped

800trucks

One full-fleet delivery order to Africa.

The batch consists of AUMAN heavy-duty trucks fitted with the ISG380 powertrain, supporting a gross vehicle weight of 56 tonnes and adapting to mixed road conditions including highways and dirt roads across Africa. Features such as the 700L large-capacity fuel tank and metal bumper are optimized for Africa’s high-temperature and rainy operating environment. Equipped with a dedicated CEM smart chip, each truck can be tracked across the whole of Africa, restoring data automatically even in remote areas with no network signal. The system provides full tracking of vehicle operating conditions, driving routes and fuel consumption, supporting refined fleet management and the market’s shift toward higher-end solutions.

Local operations across Africa
  • Multiple assembly plants, service outlets, parts warehouses and training centers
  • In-house parts warehouses in South Africa, Tanzania and Zambia for fast parts allocation and on-demand supply
  • South Africa as the core central training base, plus multilevel training centers in Tanzania and Ethiopia
  • Training courses covering technical repair, vehicle maintenance and driving standards

BAIC FOTON is moving from export-oriented vehicle sales to joint industrial collaboration, using intelligent Chinese manufacturing to support African development. August 28 marks the anniversary of BAIC FOTON, and the company says this cross-continental order recognizes its long-term local efforts. Guided by its strategies of internationalization, new energy transition and smart development, BAIC FOTON plans to further consolidate its footprint in Africa, refine its comprehensive industrial layout, and build a highly regarded commercial-vehicle brand there, opening new chapters for China-Africa industrial cooperation.

Previously from Beiqi Foton Motor Co., Ltd.

BAIC FOTON has been deepening its overseas operations in different regions. In July it operated 20 bus shuttle routes, participated in Madagascar's National Day parade with tractors, and handed over three dump trucks to the government; in August it opened a European parts distribution hub in Unna, Germany to speed local parts deliveries.

Why this matters

The order supports cross-border logistics and trunk-haul transportation across Africa, and for operators in Southeast Africa it comes with local parts warehouses and training centers meant to reduce downtime from parts shortages and delayed maintenance. It also shows BAIC Foton upgrading its Africa business from one-off truck sales to full-fleet operation solutions, competing with higher-end services rather than just vehicles.
