BMW Motorrad WorldSBK signs Brad Binder as factory rider from 2027

What Happened

Brad Binder (RSA) will join the ROKiT BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team in 2027 as teammate to Miguel Oliveira (POR). The South African is taking on a new challenge after seven years in MotoGP and will make his debut in the FIM Superbike World Championship (WorldSBK) next season. Binder and Oliveira know each other extremely well, having been teammates for many years in Grand Prix racing across the Moto3, Moto2 and MotoGP World Championships.

Brad Binder's career path
  1. 2012

Began his international career in the Moto3 class.

  2. 2016

Crowned Moto3 World Champion, then moved up to the Moto2 World Championship.

  3. 2020

Stepped up to MotoGP, where he has since claimed two victories and a further nine podium finishes.

  4. After the 2026 season

Danilo Petrucci's time in BMW Motorrad Motorsport's WorldSBK project comes to an end.

  5. 2027

Binder becomes a BMW Motorrad Motorsport factory rider in WorldSBK.

Danilo Petrucci (ITA) will leave BMW Motorrad Motorsport's WorldSBK project after the 2026 season. The manufacturer says options for continuing the collaboration in other projects are currently being explored. The 30-year-old Binder now embarks on a new chapter of his career with the German factory team.

MotoGP years before the switch

7years

Binder has raced in MotoGP since the 2020 season, taking two wins and nine further podiums.

We are delighted to welcome Brad to the BMW Motorrad Motorsport family. What particularly impresses us is his absolute determination to start a new chapter in WorldSBK. His goal is clear: he wants to fight for the World Championship title. First of all, he will need to get accustomed to the BMW M 1000 RR and to a new World Championship, and we are confident that he will do so quickly. With Brad and Miguel, two former teammates are reunited who complement each other perfectly, both in terms of their personalities and their riding styles. This combination has great potential. At the same time, we would like to thank Danilo for his tremendous commitment. Together, we want to finish the current season strongly and are working towards a future together in other projects.
Sven Blusch, Head of BMW Motorrad Motorsport

Why this matters

The move hands BMW's WorldSBK project an established Grand Prix rider and ends a seven-year MotoGP career. It also reshapes the team's line-up: Binder becomes teammate to Miguel Oliveira, while Danilo Petrucci's time in the WorldSBK project ends after the 2026 season. Binder's stated target is the World Championship title.
