What Happened
Bridgestone Corporation will become the sole tyre supplier for the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship, the world's leading all-electric motorsport championship, starting with the 2026/27 season. That season introduces the new GEN4 racing car, which Bridgestone says sets a new benchmark for speed, sustainability and innovation in motorsport. Bridgestone will provide POTENZA tyres to maximise GEN4's performance, including the POTENZA GEN4, developed with high grip, wide adaptability to road and weather conditions worldwide, and durability that maintains performance from the start to the end of a race. A second tyre, the newly developed POTENZA GEN4 for TYPHOON TYRE, is a rain tyre that provides excellent grip even when there is a large amount of water on the road.
335km/h
Formula E's fastest and most powerful car ever, accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 1.8 seconds with 815 bhp peak power and permanent active All-Wheel Drive.
For the GEN4 tyres, Bridgestone has achieved a 65% ratio of recycled and renewable materials per tyre, using raw materials such as carbon black derived from pyrolysis oil of end-of-life tyres and silica derived from rice husks. The natural rubber comes from supply chains that have undergone Bridgestone's due diligence, comply with the GPSNR Assurance System and are verified by a third party. To work toward carbon neutrality in tyre manufacturing, 100% renewable energy is allocated for both the heat and electricity used in production, and CO2 emissions can be reduced by promoting low-carbon logistics, including DHL's GoGreen Plus solution for GEN4 tyre shipments. Bridgestone says it is also advancing sustainability across its entire value chain through co-creation with partners, including chemical recycling of end-of-life tyres.
The Bridgestone Formula E World Premiere is held in Rome, Italy, attended by the FIA, Formula E, teams, drivers, global media and influencers. Bridgestone Global CEO Yasuhiro Morita speaks, Hiroshi Imai and Emilio Tiberio present the tyre technology, and the GEN4 tyres' new Bridgestone motorsport logo and design are unveiled for the first time.
Bridgestone's Technical Center Europe introduces its tyre production site and the behind-the-scenes GEN4 tyre development work by engineers and test drivers.
The 2026/27 Formula E season is scheduled to start, featuring 21 races around the world through July 2027.
- Round 3 — January 16, 2027, Mexico City, Mexico
- Rounds 10 and 11 — May 8-9, 2027, Berlin, Germany

Previously from Bridgestone Corporation
Bridgestone's move into Formula E follows recent success in world championship racing: in September 2026, the BMW MOTORRAD WORLD ENDURANCE TEAM won the 2026 FIM Endurance World Championship on Bridgestone's BATTLAX tires. It was the first time a European manufacturer had taken that title.

Why this matters
Bridgestone becomes Formula E's only tyre maker just as the series introduces its fastest, most powerful car, so its tyres must balance performance with a 65% recycled and renewable material target. Bridgestone treats motorsport as a 'mobile laboratory' that feeds racing technology into the tyres it sells to everyday drivers, so teams, drivers, fans and ordinary tyre buyers are all affected.
