Ford Engages Governments to Supply Commercial Vehicles for Defense Needs
What Happened
Beginning last year, several governments in North America and Europe engaged with Ford to discuss how its commercial vehicles and technologies could support modern defense needs. Ford notes that its Ford Pro division provides vehicles, features, and software to construction fleets and utility crews, which governments need to modernize their fleets. The company emphasizes the speed, scale, capability, and durability of its off-the-shelf solutions, which can be developed at a fraction of the time and cost of purpose-built military hardware.
Ford highlights its F-Series and Ranger platforms along with Super Duty lines, which are built for punishing terrains. Innovations like Pro Power Onboard, which turns a truck into a mobile power source, offer capabilities traditional military vehicles cannot match. The Ford Ranger, built and sold globally, is an ideal candidate for international defense cooperation.
“We are focused on supporting those in uniform with mobility, safety, and transport.”
Why this matters
By using off-the-shelf Ford vehicles, governments could access advanced technology faster and cheaper than traditional military hardware, while leveraging Ford's global production scale.
