The GALAXUS R9 is a strategic flagship model for the international high-end heavy-duty truck market, built on FOTON's global R&D system and a new intelligent architecture. Rather than a simple replica of the domestic version, it underwent 28 in-depth specialized R&D initiatives for overseas markets. Peru's expanding logistics corridors and trunk transportation demand heavy-duty trucks with higher fuel economy, safety and driving comfort, and the R9 is positioned as a high-performance solution for the country's road freight industry.
- Premium GRAMMER driver and co-driver seats
- 130 mm-thick sleeper berth for long-haul rest
- 40 L pullout onboard refrigerator
- Digital rearview mirrors with reduced blind spots and automatic adjustment
- Three-level anti-slip entry steps with footwear storage
The truck incorporates more than 90 core in-house technologies and a 100Mbps Ethernet vehicle architecture for faster data transmission, enabling rapid derivation of variants and OTA full-vehicle remote upgrades. Its L2+ full-scenario intelligent driving system was validated through 2 million kilometers of real-road tests and trained with 500,000 use-case scenarios, offering more than 28 functions such as highway navigation assist, traffic-jam assist, automatic emergency braking and blind-spot monitoring. The overseas-exclusive connected vehicle platform runs on one platform system plus six self-built data centers across seven core regions, ensuring data compliance and enabling predictive diagnostics and OTA-based digital maintenance.
In his keynote, Wu Zongtian said the Peruvian launch marks a breakthrough in the premium segment of Latin America's heavy-duty truck market and strengthens collaboration with local partners. BAIC FOTON will advance strategies in new energy, smart mobility, international expansion and premium products, tailoring solutions to regional operating conditions and honoring its long-term commitment to localized aftersales service. Li Xiangdong, Executive GM of HDT Business at FOTON International, praised the solid market performance of local core partners.
In 2026, BAIC FOTON ranked first in sales volume and market share among Chinese heavy-duty truck brands in Peru, and also secured a leading market share in Peru's overall heavy-duty truck segment, making Peru its largest overseas market for global heavy-duty truck business. That performance made Peru the first Americas stop for the FOTON GALAXUS GLOBAL EXPEDITION, which will travel across the Americas, Asia-Pacific and Africa with roadshows, hands-on customer experiences and local partnership activities. Following a flag-handover ceremony in which Li Xiangdong presented the tour flag to partner representatives and onwards to the tour fleet, the expedition formally launched.
Why this matters
The launch strengthens BAIC FOTON's position in Latin America's premium heavy-duty truck market, where it already ranks first among Chinese brands in Peru and holds a leading overall share. For Peruvian freight operators, the truck brings L2+ driving assistance, OTA updates and long-haul comfort features. It also signals the company's shift from exporting products to building local brand presence across the Americas.
