What Happened
Passenger-vehicle dispatches reached 4,39,309 units in August, up from 3,21,901 units a year earlier. SIAM described the total as the highest August figure in its series and attributed part of the annual increase to the lower comparison base.
Two-wheeler wholesales rose 10.5% to 20,34,698 units, with scooters up 23.8% to 8,55,715. Three-wheeler dispatches increased 22.8% to 93,764 units, even as electric three-wheeler volumes contracted in the reported categories.
The trade body's table reports Tata Motors only as one domestic total and does not carry regular monthly submissions from premium carmakers. That makes the industry total useful for direction, but not a complete brand-by-brand ranking.
Why this matters
The August result gives manufacturers a stronger wholesale base ahead of the festive season, although the comparison benefits from a lower year-earlier base. SIAM's release also shows scooters and three-wheelers moving at different speeds within the broader market.
