Suzuki Buys First Forest J-Credits from Hamamatsu to Support Local Forest Conservation and Carbon Neutrality
FY2035
What Happened
Suzuki Motor Corporation has signed a purchase agreement with Tenryu Forester Co., Ltd. for the first Forest J-Credit generated in Hamamatsu. The credit is created through proper forest management in the Tenryu region, which has long been known for producing high-quality timber.
The Tenryu region faces challenges such as increased imported timber and population decline. Tenryu Forester, established in 1990, focuses on forest development and management, and is pioneering Forest J-Credit creation to foster forests for future generations.
Suzuki's purchase aims to support local forest conservation and advance its target of achieving carbon neutrality at all its Japanese plants by fiscal year 2035. The company plans to minimize energy use, utilize renewable energy, and leverage Forest J-Credits to offset remaining emissions.
Why this matters
This purchase helps Suzuki offset emissions by funding local forest management, which absorbs CO2, and supports the company's goal of carbon neutrality at its domestic plants by 2035.
