Aston Martin reveals Valhalla Spider, its fastest open-cockpit car, with 1,079PS plug-in hybrid power

Aston Martin has unwrapped the Valhalla Spider, an open-cockpit version of its mid-engined plug-in hybrid supercar that still reaches 217mph with the roof removed.

Combined system output
1,079PS
Combined torque
1,100Nm
Top speed
217mph (350 km/h)
Maximum downforce (roof fitted)
in excess of 600kg

What Happened

Aston Martin has unveiled the Valhalla Spider, which it calls the fastest open-cockpit Aston Martin ever made and its first mid-engined open-cockpit production supercar. It follows the mid-engined hybrid Valhalla Coupe introduced earlier this year, and its stated mission is to increase opportunities for driver enjoyment while preserving the coupe's dynamic bandwidth on road and track. Aston Martin says close collaboration with Aston Martin Performance Technologies (AMPT), the consulting arm of the Aston Martin Aramco Formula 1 team, on dynamics, aerodynamics and materials added knowledge and skills to the Spider's design and development. The car will make its global debut this weekend at the 2026 Concours at Wynn Las Vegas.

Roof system and open-cockpit details
  • A removable, stowable black fabric roof is fitted as standard
  • With the fabric roof in place, top speed is limited to 124mph (200 km/h)
  • An optional carbon fibre hard top allows unrestricted roof-on access to the electronically limited 217mph (350 km/h) top speed
  • A rain cover is provided for static use
  • A unique wind deflector clips into position when the roof panel is removed, controlling airflow off the windscreen header to cool the snorkel while lifting air over the occupants
  • The snorkel is reprofiled and sits 35mm taller, and the wind deflector folds into 3 parts to store in new 15-litre sill stowage apertures

The Spider shares the coupe's plug-in hybrid powertrain, producing 1,079PS and 1,100Nm of torque. Central to it is an 828PS 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 with a flat-plane crank, whose 207bhp-per-litre specific output Aston Martin says is the highest of any of its combustion engines. Three electric motors and a High-Performance Battery add a further 251PS: two drive the front e-axle with full Electric Torque Vectoring for agility and stability, while the third sits alongside the 8-speed dual-clutch transmission to drive the rear axle and e-diff. With no mechanical connection between the axles, drive to each wheel is managed by the Integrated Vehicle Dynamics Control system, which monitors suspension, braking, steering, active aerodynamics and powertrain and works with four driver-selectable drive modes.

Because the Spider shares the coupe's foundational hardware and software, the technical differences are limited to specific changes to active aerodynamics and electronic stability control calibration, tailored for roof-on and roof-off airflow. Maximum downforce is in excess of 600kg with the roof fitted. The carbon fibre tub is designed and engineered by AMPT and moulded using resin transfer moulding combined with Formula 1-derived autoclave technology to create a stiff, strong and light passenger cell. A new carbon fibre Touring Seat is now standard, though the coupe's original carbon fibre seat can be retained at no cost, and the dihedral doors keep their theatre but gain refined kinematics, a frameless design and a slightly more curved glass top edge for easier entry and exit with the roof fitted.

“Valhalla Coupe broke so much new ground. Our first production mid-engined supercar. Our first plug-in hybrid. The first to feature our bespoke flat-plane crank V8 engine, and the first to use our all-new 8-speed Dual Clutch Transmission (DCT). It also pioneered a fresh design language and achieved a unique blend of exemplary on-road feel and engagement matched by extraordinary on-track capability. Valhalla Spider builds on those impressive 'firsts', preserving the aesthetic beauty and dynamic bandwidth of Valhalla Coupe while introducing the expanded opportunities for enjoyment and engagement that can only be found in an open-cockpit supercar. High speed or low speed. Rain or shine. Roof on or roof off. Road or track. Valhalla Spider ticks every box.”

Key dates for the Valhalla line

Aston Martin introduces the mid-engined hybrid Valhalla Coupe

  2. 28 October 2026

  4. Q3 2027

Deliveries of the Valhalla Spider begin

Why this matters

The Spider gives buyers an open-top alternative to the Valhalla Coupe without losing its headline performance, since Aston Martin says top speed is unchanged roof-off. It also shows how technology from the Aston Martin Aramco Formula 1 team, through consulting arm AMPT, feeds into the company's production supercars. Deliveries are not due until the third quarter of 2027.

Terms in This Story

PHEV
Plug-in hybrid electric vehicle: a car that combines a combustion engine with electric motors and a battery that can be recharged from an external power source.
Downforce
Aerodynamic force that pushes a car down onto the road, increasing grip and cornering ability as speed rises.
Flat-plane crank
A crankshaft design in which the crank pins are arranged in a single plane, a layout used in some high-revving V8 engines.
DCT
Dual-clutch transmission: an automated gearbox with two clutches that swaps between gears without interrupting power delivery.
