What Happened

BMW M and BMW Motorrad are presenting the joint anniversary edition "100 Jahre Nürburgring" to mark the 100th anniversary of the Nürburgring in 2027. The edition comprises six BMW M automobiles and three BMW Motorrad M models, paying tribute to a place that stands for driving dynamics, precision and performance, and it is based on the latest technical developments from BMW M GmbH. The 20.8-kilometre Nordschleife, with its 73 corners and significant elevation changes, is considered one of the most demanding racetracks in the world and serves both brands as a development track, where chassis, powertrain, aerodynamics, brakes and thermal management are tested in combination, with the insights flowing directly into series development.

The nine models in the edition
  • BMW M2 — the compact entry into the edition, combining an inline six-cylinder engine, short proportions and a consistently driver-focused character with an M carbon roof, M carbon bucket seats, exclusive paintwork and specific graphics.
  • BMW M3 Sedan and BMW M3 Touring — the Sedan combines everyday usability, precision and racetrack competence with Nürburgring graphics, an M carbon roof and green accents on the wheels, while the Touring pairs M3 driving dynamics with high versatility.
  • BMW M4 Coupé — a two-door performance icon with M carbon roof, BMW M stripes and striking edition-specific accents; BMW M Ignite underlines the transfer of technology to the production model.
  • BMW M5 Sedan and BMW M5 Touring — both use the M HYBRID drive; the Sedan adds an M carbon roof, Styling 951 M wheels with green accents and black Nordschleife embroidery, while the Touring has a steel roof with stripes in the exclusive design.
  • BMW Motorrad M 1000 RR, BMW M 1000 R and BMW M 1000 XR — each limited to 100 units worldwide; the M 1000 RR is an uncompromising Supersport bike, the M 1000 R a hyper naked and the M 1000 XR a high-performance crossover. Standard equipment includes the M Track Package, historical Nürburgring Green paint, anniversary decals, carbon wheels, a black rear swingarm and rear frame and an Alcantara-look seat with "100" embroidery, plus an M Cover Kit for the M 1000 RR and M 1000 R, an exclusive M motorcycle mat with the 100 Jahre Nürburgring logo and a rear-wheel paddock stand.

A key technical innovation for the inline six-cylinder models is BMW M Ignite, a pre-chamber ignition system patented by BMW that has been used in the engines of the BMW M2, BMW M3 and BMW M4 since July and August 2026. It increases efficiency, especially under high load, reduces consumption under racetrack conditions and helps meet Euro 7 requirements, all without any loss of performance. BMW M Ignite thus exemplifies the direct transfer of technology from motorsport, which the edition tagline "Born on the Racetrack. Made for the Streets." also emphasises.

Design details shared across the nine models
  • Historical Nürburgring Green paint, developed exclusively for the edition, is the common identifying feature; the BMW M automobiles are alternatively available in Black Sapphire metallic.
  • The design concept uses the "100 Years" logo, the wording "Nürburgring since 1927" and the silhouette of the Nürburgring, with model-specific graphics, materials and accent colours.
  • On the BMW M cars, edition graphics appear on the front doors, C-pillar and rear side sections depending on the model; roof stripes run across the M carbon roof on the M2, M3 Sedan, M4 Coupé and M5 Sedan, and across the steel roof on the M3 Touring and M5 Touring.
  • The colour scheme is defined by light grey tones, Nürburgring Green and black, with model-dependent green accents on wheels and kidney frames.
  • Inside the cars, a black interior meets contrasting green and white stitching; the inline six-cylinder models get an M Alcantara steering wheel with matching stitching and a 12 o'clock marker, while the BMW M5 models feature an M steering wheel with the same design signature.
  • The motorcycles feature a painted fuel tank with the Nürburgring silhouette, an airbox cover in the anniversary design with individual "one of 100" marking, carbon wheels with accent stripes in Nürburgring Green, a seat in Alcantara look with an embroidered "100", and black components such as the rear swingarm and rear frame.

Previously from BMW

BMW Motorrad has already confirmed a 2027 racing programme built around the M 1000 RR: our earlier coverage reported that Brad Binder will race the bike for the ROKiT BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team from 2027, after seven years in MotoGP. Today's anniversary edition includes the same model, limited to 100 units worldwide.

Background drawn from MotorClaw's earlier coverage of BMW's official releases.

Why this matters

The edition shows how BMW turns racetrack development into road cars: the inline six-cylinder M2, M3 and M4 get BMW M Ignite pre-chamber ignition, which BMW says cuts consumption under racetrack conditions and helps meet Euro 7 rules without losing performance. Buyers can order five of the cars from September 2026, while each of the three motorcycles is capped at 100 units worldwide.
