What Happened
BorgWarner said it has secured multiple eMotor business awards in China for a range of electrified and hybrid vehicle programs. The awards come from leading original equipment manufacturers and span range-extended, battery-electric and hybrid applications, with production expected to begin between 2027 and 2028. The company said the new business broadens its customer base, expands the application of its eMotor technologies and further strengthens its electrified propulsion portfolio in China. One of the three programs is BorgWarner's first eMotor award with the China joint venture operations of a leading global OEM.
- Range-extended: high-voltage hairpin P1 eMotor stator and rotor assemblies for the China joint venture operations of a leading global OEM, BorgWarner's first eMotor program with that customer, delivering 115 kW of peak power with an optimized cooling structure.
- Battery-electric: continued supply of high-voltage hairpin main drive eMotor stator and rotor assemblies for a leading Chinese new energy vehicle OEM's next-generation SUV platforms, designed for a 715V architecture with 300 kW peak power and 495 Nm peak torque.
- Hybrid: stator and rotor assemblies for a 130 kW P2 eMotor supplied to an electric drive system supplier, using BorgWarner's proprietary S-winding continuous-wave winding for compact packaging, low alternating-current losses and high power density, to be integrated into hybrid systems for several global vehicle programs.

“We are pleased to establish and expand our eMotor business with customers across China. The breadth of these programs demonstrates our ability to address diverse application requirements through strong product performance, cost optimization and localized manufacturing. With our established engineering and production footprint in China, we are well positioned to support customers as they develop their next generation of electrified vehicles.”
For the range-extended program, BorgWarner says the P1 motor is designed to provide additional power during rapid acceleration while supporting efficient electricity generation during range-extending operation, with an optimized cooling structure and increased efficiency across the operating range. The 130 kW P2 unit uses a continuous-wave winding configuration to support compact packaging, low alternating-current losses and high power density. Across its next-generation eMotor products, the company says optimized electromagnetic designs and cooling structures raise peak efficiency and extend the high-efficiency operating range, helping reduce vehicle energy consumption across more operating conditions. BorgWarner adds that its internally developed design and local manufacturing footprint enable fast-to-market products with consistent quality and reliable delivery.
Previously from BorgWarner Inc.
BorgWarner's earlier third-quarter report showed net earnings up 47.9% and nine new propulsion and electrification awards won in the quarter. The company also raised its full-year adjusted earnings guidance at that time.

Why this matters
BorgWarner says the awards broaden its customer base, expand the use of its eMotor technologies and strengthen its electrified propulsion portfolio in China, where it already has engineering and production operations. Because production is not due to start until 2027-2028, the vehicles using these motors will reach the market later; the customers involved are Chinese and global carmakers plus an electric drive system supplier.
Terms in This Story
- eMotor
- The electric machine that drives an electrified vehicle or generates electricity in it; here supplied as stator and rotor assemblies rather than a complete unit.
- Stator and rotor
- The two core parts of an electric motor: the stationary stator with its windings, and the rotor that spins inside it.
- Hairpin
- A motor winding style in which rectangular copper wire is bent into hairpin shapes and inserted into the stator slots, instead of conventional round wire.
- Range-extended vehicle
- An electrified vehicle driven by an electric motor whose battery is recharged by an on-board combustion engine acting as a generator.
