What Happened
BYD unveiled the updated Seagull electric hatchback at a presentation in Zhengzhou, establishing list pricing between 65,900 yuan ($9,810) and 99,900 yuan across five distinct equipment tiers. The opening sticker price undercuts the prior 2026 model-year version by 4,000 yuan, while buyers trading in older vehicles can secure an additional 3,000 yuan reduction to reach 62,900 yuan.
The three higher-tier trims feature a 39.2-kWh battery unit delivering 420 km of CLTC cruising range, engineered to restore 10% to 70% capacity in 5 minutes at dedicated stations. In contrast, the two entry-grade versions utilize a 30.1-kWh battery providing 320 km of driving distance without the fast-replenishment capability.
The redesigned interior transitions to a five-seat layout with an optional roof-installed lidar sensor available on the premier 99,900-yuan trim. Non-commercial buyers opting for the flash-capable packages also receive 1 year of complimentary charging at designated stations.
Why this matters
The refreshed Seagull solidifies BYD's volume lead in China's budget urban EV market while shaving 4,000 yuan from the prior entry price. Equipping higher-specification trims with five-minute fast replenishment and optional lidar establishes new capability thresholds for city runabouts.
