What Happened
Daimler Truck sent the battery-electric eActros 600, Mercedes-Benz Trucks' flagship for long-haul transport, on a special tour through southern Germany. In Munich, freight carrier Lettl used the truck to deliver beer to one of the festival tents at Oktoberfest, after which the vehicle continued to Stuttgart, where freight carrier Torwesten deployed it to supply beer to the Cannstatter Wasen. The tour also serves as Daimler Truck's celebration of a special anniversary: 130 years of trucks. Mercedes-Benz Trucks is revisiting the historic link between commercial vehicle history, festival culture and the flow of goods under its anniversary campaign, '130 Years of Forward.'
Large festivals depend on a wide range of precisely coordinated processes behind the scenes, including setup and dismantling, food service, technical infrastructure, supply logistics and waste management, all of which place high demands on transportation and timing. Daimler Truck says events of this scale would not be possible without trucks. The tour is intended to highlight something that often goes unnoticed: that for generations trucks have created the foundation that makes events and shared experiences possible, while also demonstrating the transformation underway in road freight transport, where battery-electric trucks already perform such transport tasks CO2e-free in driving operation.
The first truck marked the beginning of a new era in freight transportation; breweries were among the earliest customers of Gottlieb Daimler's new means of transport.
Mercedes-Benz Trucks celebrated the start of series production of the eActros 600 at the Mercedes-Benz Wörth plant.
Charging according to the Megawatt Charging System (MCS) standard becomes available for the eActros 600.
621kWh
Three battery packs of 207 kWh each, based on lithium iron phosphate (LFP) cell technology; the model designation 600 refers to the high capacity of over 600 kilowatt hours.
- 500 km
- up to 560 km
- Named International Truck of the Year 2025 by the IToY organization, which comprises 24 commercial vehicle journalists from across Europe; the award cited the vehicle's overall technological concept, including its electric drive axle and LFP cell technology
- Designed to meet the same durability requirements as a comparable conventional heavy-duty long-haul Actros: up to 1.2 million kilometers in ten years of operation
- Battery state of health should still be above 80 percent after that period of use
- More than 95 percent of the installed capacity can be used with LFP technology, helping deliver a higher range with the same installed battery capacity
- Technically designed for a gross combination mass of up to 44 tons, with a payload of around 22 tons with a standard semitrailer in the EU, though national law may allow higher payloads in some cases
- MCS charging will enable charging times of less than 30 minutes at charging capacities of up to 1,000 kW, via an optional additional MCS charging socket on the left-hand side of the vehicle
For its festival appearances the eActros 600 sported a distinctive look, wearing both a traditional dirndl and lederhosen and making it an eye-catcher on its mission. The cab creatively combines two of the best-known symbols of traditional Bavarian attire: one side is designed as elaborately embroidered lederhosen complete with suspenders, while the other features a classic dirndl with an apron, bow and lace details. Floral embroidery and traditional patterns complete the design.
Why this matters
The tour is Daimler Truck's way of showing that battery-electric trucks are already carrying out everyday freight tasks such as festival beer deliveries, running CO2e-free in driving operation. It also points to who depends on this shift: freight carriers, breweries and the large events that cannot function without truck logistics.
