Škoda Auto and JSW Mobility Explore Strategic Vehicle Partnership in India

Škoda Auto and JSW Green Mobility have entered a preliminary pact to investigate establishing an automotive venture in India.

What Happened

Under a preliminary memorandum of understanding, Škoda Auto and JSW Green Mobility will evaluate creating an automotive joint venture within India. The exploratory pact represents an initial step toward formal collaboration between Škoda Auto and the Indian industrial group.

At this stage, the MoU is exploratory and non-binding. The two companies are in early discussions, and there is no definitive agreement yet. Any firm arrangement would follow further negotiation, internal approvals and the necessary regulatory clearances.

The planned venture would rest on joint control and a clear division of responsibilities aimed at fast, efficient decisions. Its goals include broadening the model range, pushing deeper localisation, and building up Indian manufacturing and R&D. Localising more and sharing platforms should help deliver attractive products, bigger volumes, and better margins.

If established, the alliance plans to engineer, build, and distribute passenger vehicles spanning internal combustion engines, battery-electric systems, plug-in hybrids, and conventional hybrids for Indian buyers alongside foreign markets. The undertaking would represent JSW Group's third automotive venture, joining JSW MG Motor India alongside the separate JSW Motors business.

~36%

Skoda doubled its India sales that year, the strongest gain of any market worldwide.

Why this matters

The proposed venture could give JSW Group a third automotive arm and help Skoda build on its rapid India growth. It may expand locally produced models and powertrain options for domestic and export buyers, though the agreement is still exploratory and requires further steps.
