In Japan, sales including minivehicles rose 9.7% to 27,810 units. Passenger vehicle sales climbed 14.9% to 13,895 units, while commercial vehicle sales fell 12.8% to 2,169 units. Registered vehicles rose 10.1% to 16,064 units and minivehicles rose 9.2% to 11,746 units. Production in Japan rose 9.2% to 37,152 units, while production outside Japan fell 24.3% to 154,372 units.
U.S. production jumped 19.3% to 54,791 units and UK production rose 4.0% to 16,737 units, but Mexican production fell 26.0% to 48,615 units and production in China plunged 73.3% to 15,474 units. Nissan's "Others" production category, covering markets including Taiwan, Thailand, South Africa, Brazil, India, Egypt and Argentina, rose 2.6% to 18,755 units. Nissan noted that following the sale of shares in Renault Nissan Automotive India Pvt. Ltd. (RNAIPL), the figures for India now include only Nissan-produced models.
Exports from Japan slipped 3.7% in August to 26,610 units. North American exports fell 3.0% to 12,736 units and European exports dropped 28.4% to 2,592 units, while exports to other regions rose 3.6% to 11,282 units. For the April-August period, global sales were 1,105,661 units, down 12.1%, and global production was 1,014,717 units, down 5.9%.
