What Happened
Scania is launching Venture & New Business China (VNBC), a dedicated platform to identify, develop and pilot new business opportunities in China through strategic partnerships, customer collaborations and new ventures. Kelly Fu has been appointed Regional Lead for China Venture & New Business at Scania Group. The initiative is part of Scania's continued long-term development in China and will initially focus on energy transition and autonomous transport, including building ecosystem partnerships and exploring the new business models needed to bring future solutions to market.
- Identify, develop and pilot new business opportunities in China through strategic partnerships, customer collaborations and new ventures
- Enable Scania to rapidly test technologies and business models in real-world applications
- Build the knowledge and experience needed to shape future transport solutions
- Support Scania Group China's growth today while building capabilities for an increasingly electrified and autonomous transport ecosystem
- Work with local governments and ecosystem partners across China to explore opportunities for collaboration
“China combines the scale of the world's largest truck market with one of the world's fastest-moving technology and innovation landscapes. For Scania, that creates an opportunity not only to serve customers here but also to build new solutions together with local partners. We will start with local customer needs, bring together complementary capabilities, test solutions in the market and scale those that create real commercial value.”
“Venture & New Business has a dual role in China. We support Scania Group China's growth today, while building the capabilities needed to strengthen our position in an increasingly electrified and autonomous transport ecosystem over time. By working with partners, we can rapidly test technologies and business models in real-world applications, build valuable insights and use those learnings to shape the transport solutions of the future.”
Kelly Fu brings extensive experience from investment banking, digital mobility, commercial-vehicle technology and new business building. She spent six years at DiDi, including as General Manager of its Beijing Office, and also worked in investment at G7, where she played a key role in the company's merger with E6. Most recently she has focused on start-ups and emerging solutions within heavy-duty battery-electric and hydrogen transport.
“Scania's development in China is a long-term commitment. China is an important market for Scania, both commercially and strategically. Kelly's experience across investment, digital transport and emerging technologies brings a strong combination of perspectives to Venture & New Business. VNBC gives us a dedicated platform to work with customers, partners and the wider ecosystem to explore new opportunities and develop solutions for the future of transport. By combining local insight with Scania's global capabilities, we can turn insights into action, build new partnerships and help accelerate future transport solutions.”
The initiative builds on Scania's growing presence and capabilities in China. Scania points to its Scania and NEXT ERA commercial offerings as well as local capabilities in research and development, procurement and production, giving it a broader foundation for developing solutions close to Chinese customers. The Nantong and Rugao region, home to Scania's third industrial production hub, will provide an important environment for testing and piloting new solutions together with customers and partners.
Previously from Scania AB
Scania's new China venture unit follows a run of electrified-transport moves by the company in the weeks before this announcement. Scania recently added battery packs behind the cab of selected electric trucks, creating a long-haul configuration with up to 720 kilometres of claimed range, and JUNA, its electric-truck-as-a-service joint venture with sennder, has passed 100 electric trucks in operation across four European markets and expects around 150 by the end of the year. The company is also planning a hydrogen pilot in which Toyota will supply fuel cell systems for 40 Scania trucks run by logistics customers, with the first expected on the road in the first quarter of 2027.
- Scania adds behind-cab batteries to extend electric truck range to 720 km
- JUNA's Scania-sennder electric truck fleet passes 100 vehicles in four European markets
- Toyota to supply fuel cells for 40 Scania trucks in hydrogen pilot due to start in 2027

Why this matters
China is the world's largest truck market and one of the fastest-moving technology and innovation landscapes, so Scania is dedicating a unit to test electrified and autonomous transport ideas with local partners. The company frames its China development as a long-term commitment, affecting local customers, partners, governments and the wider transport ecosystem it plans to work with.
