ARAI wins NABL approval for high-pressure gas-cylinder testing in Pune

ARAI’s Takwe Mobility Research Centre in Pune can now offer accredited testing and validation for high-pressure gaseous cylinders.

Accreditation standard
ISO/IEC 17025:2017
Hydrogen testing capability
Up to 700 bar
Cylinder types
Type I–IV

What Happened

The accreditation covers ARAI’s newly established cylinder facility at the Takwe Mobility Research Centre. The centre can help makers develop, qualify and certify high-pressure gaseous cylinders, including work for production batches and formal type approval.

The work spans Type I to Type IV cylinders used in automotive and other specialised applications. ARAI lists testing for CNG, HCNG, hydrogen and other gases, while noting that some specialised hydrogen tests are outside the current accreditation scope.

Testing now listed at the facility
  • Hydrostatic and pressure-cycle testing
  • Permeation, burst and bonfire testing
  • Drop and mechanical-durability testing
  • Material and environmental evaluation

Why this matters

The new domestic capacity gives cylinder makers and vehicle developers a local route for qualification work. Its scope reaches CNG, hydrogen and other gas systems, linking the facility to India’s alternative-fuel supply chain.
