What Happened
Honda's Indian patent covers the UC3, an electric scooter with a roomier cruiser-inspired design. The overseas model uses a lithium-iron-phosphate battery, 12-inch wheels and a 6kW peak motor.
Honda claims 122 kilometers of range per charge and a top speed of 120kph. Charging from 20 to 80 percent takes a claimed five hours with a 450-watt charger or two hours with a 1,200-watt unit.
The scooter has 26 litres of under-seat storage, three riding modes and a reverse function controlled through a five-inch TFT display. Its listed kerb weight is 129kg and seat height is 779mm.
Honda's patent filing does not establish that the UC3 will be sold in India. The company may be protecting the design as part of its normal intellectual-property process while it decides which overseas products fit the local market.
Why this matters
