Maruti Suzuki sets record Q2 sales of 696,654 units, but profit falls to INR 24,149 million

Maruti Suzuki's highest-ever quarterly sales volume of 696,654 units lifted its domestic market share to 40.8%, yet net profit fell as commodity costs and mark-to-market losses bit.

What Happened

Maruti Suzuki India Limited's board approved the financial results for Q2 (July-September) of fiscal 2026-27, and the company reported its highest-ever quarterly total sales volume of 696,654 units, a 26.5% increase over the same period a year earlier. Growth in the domestic passenger vehicle market was broad-based, with small car sales up 35.9% and SUV sales up 68.2%, helped by a strong market response to recently introduced SUVs. Domestic market share increased by 2.2 percentage points to 40.8%. Recent capacity additions enabled the company to serve the strong demand, though demand continued to outpace supply.

Supply, exports and other quarter details
  • Network inventory was low at about 17 days at the end of the quarter.
  • Pending bookings were about 200,000 units at the end of the quarter.
  • Exports reached 108,119 units in Q2 FY2026-27, compared with 110,487 units in Q2 FY2025-26, despite a challenging geopolitical situation.
  • Operating profit (EBIT) rose 10.8% sequentially from Q1 FY2026-27 to Q2 FY2026-27.
  • Non-operating income declined sharply in Q2 owing to mark-to-market losses on invested surplus.

For H1 (April-September) of fiscal 2026-27, Maruti Suzuki posted its highest-ever half-yearly sales volume of 1,379,378 units, a 27.9% year-on-year increase. That comprised record half-yearly domestic sales of 1,146,523 units and exports of 232,855 units. Half-yearly net sales were also a record at INR 1,005,746 million, against INR 767,564 million in H1 FY2025-26. Net profit for the half stood at INR 57,670 million, down from INR 70,609 million a year earlier.

The board also approved the incorporation of a Section 8 company to set up the Osamu Suzuki Centre of Excellence. The board decided to honour Mr. Osamu Suzuki, who it said put his trust in India and over more than four decades transformed the Indian car industry with his philosophy and manufacturing concepts, by spreading those ideas widely for the growth and competitiveness of India's manufacturing sector. The Centre of Excellence will use Japanese manufacturing philosophy, culture and the teachings of Mr. Osamu Suzuki to promote vocational and future-ready technical skills and concepts for advancing manufacturing excellence across India. It will operate as a corporate social responsibility activity.

Previously from Maruti Suzuki India Limited

Earlier in October, MotorClaw reported that Maruti Suzuki recorded a 41 percent year-on-year increase in cumulative hatchback deliveries during the first half of fiscal 2026-27, alongside delivering an all-time high of 5,65,201 domestic passenger vehicles in the second quarter. We also reported that Maruti Suzuki sold 236,013 vehicles in September 2026, made up of 185,252 domestic sales, 6,542 units sold to other manufacturers and 44,219 exports.

Why this matters

Maruti Suzuki sold more vehicles than ever in the quarter and raised its domestic market share by 2.2 percentage points, but it earned less: commodity increases linked to the West-Asia conflict and mark-to-market losses on invested surplus pulled net profit below last year's level. The release also shows demand still running ahead of supply, with about 17 days of network inventory and roughly 200,000 pending bookings at the end of the quarter.
