What Happened
Beijing Hyundai will put the Ioniq V on sale in China on September 29, starting a product push in the country that buys more electric cars than any other. The sedan is the first mass-produced vehicle from Hyundai's Ioniq brand line to be built for that country, and a Chinese team led its development. Hyundai says the car will also be exported globally. It is the road-going take on the Venus Concept that appeared at the Beijing show in April.

Official market launch of the Ioniq V in China.
The launch sits inside a broader Hyundai plan for China built on an approach the company calls 'In China, For China, To Global.' Hyundai used Auto China 2026 in April to reaffirm its commitment to the market and to launch the all-electric IONIQ brand there. Its roadmap sets out a target of 20 new models for China across five years, spanning battery-electric and extended-range electric vehicles. Hyundai describes China as important to its EV development and international ambitions.
Why this matters
The Ioniq V is the first model from Hyundai's Ioniq brand created specifically for China, where a local team led development and locally sourced batteries are used. Buyers in China get a new mid-size electric option, and Hyundai says the car will be exported globally.
