What Happened
MAN Truck & Bus is presenting a new fully electric eTGX for heavy long-haul transport at IAA Transportation 2026. Its front end has been pulled forward by 120 millimetres, which lets MAN use the EU length allowances for zero-emission vehicles to improve aerodynamics and safety. Combined with a new battery generation offering ten percent more usable energy than the previous generation and recuperation up to 20 percent stronger, the new eTGX drives up to three percent more efficiently than its predecessor.

- up to 720 km
- well over 500 km (4x2), over 600 km (6x2)
The new battery generation gains its ten percent more usable energy through improvements in cell chemistry, while compact size, variable combinability and low battery weight stay unchanged. Usable capacity rises to 95 percent, so each 92 kWh gross pack provides 88 kWh for vehicle operation. The 4x2 tractor unit has a 10.7-tonne kerb weight and, with a standard trailer, offers up to 25 tonnes of payload, comparable to a diesel tractor unit. The seventh battery, mounted crosswise behind the cab, also delivers 92 kWh gross with the same robustness and durability, and MAN develops these batteries specifically for trucks and buses itself and produces them at its Nuremberg plant.
- New top motorization: 440 kW / 598 PS with up to 480 kW recuperation
- New 360 kW / 490 PS level with up to 420 kW recuperation
- 290 kW / 349 PS level with up to 320 kW recuperation
- Seamless eTGX and eTGS drivetrain range from 333 to 598 PS
- All power levels offer noticeably higher recuperation, and the NMC battery technology used in commercial vehicles supports high recuperation and high continuous braking power, adding to driving safety
The 120 mm longer, flow-optimised front with a single-frame grille, a continuous fog-lamp band and optimised wind deflectors cuts air resistance and so helps range. Lowering the dashboard and the wiper arrangement improves the driver's direct view of road users immediately in front, while a new low-vision window in the passenger door gives a better view of the near field to the right when turning; it has inner and outer panes for cabin acoustics, ventilation against misting, can be opened for cleaning and is tinted to protect the driver's privacy. An extended curtain adds screening during rest periods, and the MAN Individual Lion S package brings a black styling package, a redesigned front flap, a side design window, full side panelling and a black roof lamp bar with two rows of LED light bars. Cabin comfort upgrades include wireless smartphone charging, EasyControl buttons also at the passenger door, a more powerful 230-volt socket with up to 1.2 kW, a heatable front mirror and a mechanical night lock.
“With the new MAN eTGX we are taking the next big step on the road to decarbonising long-haul transport. The combination of the new battery generation, even greater range, megawatt charging and a vehicle design consistently geared to efficiency creates tangible economic added value for our customers in daily use. At the same time, we improve direct visibility and therefore safety for all road users.”
Charging uses MAN's optional MCS connector, which has already been in series production since July, with a maximum charging power of 750 kW that refills the batteries in around thirty minutes, so it can take place during the driver's driving-time break; shorter standing times mean better vehicle utilisation and more flexibility. For all truck series MAN is also showing numerous assistance and safety updates at IAA 2026: the predictive EfficientCruise cruise control integrates traffic infrastructure more intelligently, and the interaction of FrontDetection, the turning assistant and the emergency braking assistant gives vulnerable road users in front of and beside the vehicle better protection, including at low speeds. Digital services for high vehicle availability and a comprehensive ecosystem around electric mobility, charging and energy supply complete the offering. MAN's electric commercial vehicle portfolio already covers the eTGL, eTGM, eTGS and eTGX series, spanning applications from 12 to 50 tonnes gross weight on a modular technology approach with uniform high-voltage components and battery systems.
Previously from MAN Truck & Bus
MAN had already flagged this new eTGX generation ahead of the show, saying it would bring an eTGX to IAA Transportation 2026 with up to 10 percent more usable energy and a range of up to 720 kilometres. Today's premiere fills in the technical detail behind that announcement.

Why this matters
The eTGX targets heavy long-haul haulage, where an electric truck has to match a diesel tractor on payload and daily usability. MAN says the combination of more range, megawatt charging and better efficiency creates tangible economic added value for its customers in daily operation, while improved direct visibility benefits drivers and all road users.
Terms in This Story
- MCS
- A high-power charging connector standard for heavy commercial vehicles, designed to deliver far more power than passenger-car fast charging.
- Recuperation
- Recovering energy during braking or coasting and feeding it back into the battery instead of losing it as heat.
- NMC battery
- A lithium-ion battery whose cathode uses nickel, manganese and cobalt, a chemistry often chosen for energy density and performance.
- Tractor unit
- The towing part of an articulated truck that carries the engine and couples to a semi-trailer.
