What Happened
Mercedes-Benz registered its highest nine-month delivery tally in the Indian market through September 2026, delivering 15,190 vehicles for an eight percent annual gain. The performance was anchored by an expanding customer backlog for the battery-powered CLA sedan, which has accumulated in excess of one thousand firm reservations since arriving in showrooms last April. Factory allocation limitations mean buyer wait times currently span up to half a year, pushing scheduled handovers out to March 2027.

During the third calendar quarter, the German luxury manufacturer handed over 5,422 vehicles, marking a six percent improvement against the corresponding period in 2025 and a sequential rise of 17 percent over the second quarter. Core offerings including the C-Class alongside extended-wheelbase editions of the E-Class, GLE, and GLS generated roughly three-fifths of total Indian deliveries. Meanwhile, flagship top-tier products advanced 13 percent, spearheaded by AMG performance variants climbing 18 percent and Maybach EQS sport-utilities jumping 68 percent.

While total zero-emission registrations rose 16 percent across the nine-month stretch, executive leadership highlighted that persistent manufacturing bottlenecks constrained faster market uptake. According to chief executive Santosh Iyer, electric market penetration was restrained by roughly seven to eight percentage points due to tight international allocations. Concurrently, traditional compression-ignition vehicles demonstrated renewed durability, expanding their share of brand registrations from 38 percent to 40 percent even as domestic competitors phased out diesel offerings.
To widen its electrified footprint, the carmaker formally initiated order collection for the forthcoming GLC Electric ahead of an official November 4 commercial rollout. The mid-size electric crossover will roll off assembly lines at the Chakan manufacturing facility near Pune, featuring a 94-kilowatt-hour battery system paired with dual-motor all-wheel propulsion that delivers an estimated 715-kilometer driving radius under European WLTP testing criteria.
Why this matters
Despite persistent international supply limitations curbing electric vehicle adoption by seven to eight percentage points, Mercedes-Benz continues to scale both premium luxury models and zero-emission offerings in India. The simultaneous expansion of diesel demand to 40 percent highlights an Indian luxury buying dynamic distinct from European markets.
