What Happened
Mitsubishi will pull the wraps off the Outlander Diamond Trail Edition at the SEMA show in Las Vegas next month, and the variant joins the range for the 2028 model year. Mitsubishi bills it as the most off-road-capable Outlander it has built. Neither a price nor a launch date has been released. The trim carries a Rock drive mode, tougher-looking exterior pieces and its own badging.
- Rock drive mode, which delivers extra traction to curb wheelspin and switches on Hill Descent Control by itself
- All-terrain Nexen Roadian ATX tires on 18-inch black alloy wheels
- Front and rear bumpers reworked for sharper approach and departure angles
- Raised roof rails, flared wheel arches and a matte black grille
- Rugged body panels
A new earthy shade called Trail Green Metallic makes its first appearance on this version. Inside, the seats are dark gray with khaki stitching, and the cabin mixes satin metallic accents alongside dark chrome and non-reflective black interior trim. The model's own logo — downhill skiers on a course, drawn around Mitsubishi's three-diamond mark — is stamped on interior surfaces across the cabin, including seating, carpets, and door panels.
Six Mitsubishi vehicles will share the SEMA stand this year, and the Diamond Trail is the most trail-oriented of them. The effort sits inside Momentum 2030, a programme aimed at strengthening the brand's position in North America through the end of the decade, with rugged, off-road-ready models carrying much of the weight. In a compact-SUV class where the regular Outlander often gets overlooked, a version with Rock mode and knobbly tires is meant to give buyers a fresh reason to consider it.

Why this matters
The Outlander tends to get lost among compact SUVs, and Mitsubishi is betting a trail-focused trim gives shoppers a reason to look again. The edition also previews Momentum 2030, the company's push to grow in North America by the end of the decade with more rugged models — which matters to dealers, buyers and rivals in that region.
