Rolls-Royce Coachbuild Tradition and Future: New Goodwood Extension by 2029

What Happened
Coachbuilding is the art of creating bespoke bodywork on a pre-assembled chassis, a craft that predates the motor car. Rolls-Royce revived modern coachbuilding in 2017 with Sweptail, followed by Boat Tail (2021) and Droptail (2023). Each commission is a true one-off, never replicated, with clients collaborating directly on design, materials, and engineering.
Sweptail unveiled, the first fully coachbuilt Rolls-Royce of the modern Goodwood era.
First Boat Tail unveiled at Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este; three unique examples completed by 2022.
Droptail introduced, starting with La Rose Noire and Amethyst Droptail.
Arcadia Droptail completed, featuring the most complex Rolls-Royce clock face ever.
Goodwood site extension scheduled for completion, adding capacity for more Coachbuild commissions.

Why this matters
Coachbuilding allows ultra-wealthy clients to commission truly unique automotive art. The extension signals Rolls-Royce's commitment to this rare craft, enabling more complex one-off projects and preserving a tradition nearly lost to mass production.
