Opel unveils final GSE 27FE livery at Paris Motor Show ahead of Formula E debut

Opel has pulled the covers off the final race livery of its GSE 27FE, the GEN4 car it will take into its debut Formula E season, at the Paris Motor Show.

What Happened

Opel has revealed the final race livery of the Opel GSE 27FE, the car with which the German manufacturer will contest its first season in the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship. The world premiere takes place at the Paris Motor Show, where the Rüsselsheim-based manufacturer presents its all-electric GEN4 race car in its final colours to the public for the first time, together with factory drivers Mitch Evans and Théo Pourchaire. The reveal on October 12 marks the next major milestone on Opel's road to the World Championship, just weeks before the season opener. The final design builds on the striking look of the prototype that accompanied the team throughout its testing programme and takes it a decisive step further.

“GSE stands for performance born in motorsport, engineered for the road and experienced far beyond it – with precision you can feel in every situation. With Formula E, our performance brand is now entering the world's fastest all-electric racing championship, at precisely the moment a new era begins with the GEN4 generation. With its final livery, the GSE 27FE reflects not only our passion for Formula E, but also our clear ambition to shape the competition from the very beginning.”
— Rebecca Reinermann, Opel Vice President Marketing

At the heart of the livery are three bold colour blocks in black, silver and yellow that pick up iconic Opel Motorsport liveries of the past and reinterpret them for the electric era. New to the final design is a metallic silver spine running down the centre of the car, forming the visual backbone of the GSE 27FE and symbolising the connection between the driver's instinct and the precision of the machine. Pixelated Lightspeed Stripes race across the bodywork, translating what normally remains invisible in electric racing – the flow of energy, data and software – into a dynamic visual signature. Small details include a discreet 'Designed in Germany' signature and the 'Opel GSE 27FE' identifier marking Opel's first-ever Formula E car. The livery was created by Opel's Global Brand Design team in Rüsselsheim and continues the design journey Opel began with the Mokka GSE Rally in 2025.

“With the final design of the Opel GSE 27FE, we show what Formula E looks like through Opel eyes. Airflow becomes linework, energy becomes colour and efficiency becomes precision. Our motorsport heritage provides the DNA, German design provides the structure – and Formula E takes it into the future.”
— Pierre-Olivier Garcia, Opel Global Brand Design Manager
Design elements of the Opel GSE 27FE livery
  • Three bold colour blocks in black, silver and yellow referencing iconic Opel Motorsport liveries
  • A new metallic silver 'spine' running down the centre of the car
  • Pixelated Lightspeed Stripes expressing the instant response of the electric drivetrain
  • Bold Opel GSE Yellow cutting through the exposed carbon – 'yellow means go'
  • A discreet 'Designed in Germany' signature
  • The 'Opel GSE 27FE' identifier marking Opel's first-ever Formula E car

Mitch Evans, the most successful driver in Formula E history with 16 victories, is part of the Opel GSE Formula E Team's driver line-up alongside Théo Pourchaire, together with test and development driver Sophia Flörsch. Evans said the final design looks "fantastic" and that the additional silver gives it a sharp and sophisticated appearance – and, most importantly, that "it looks fast". Opel's Paris Motor Show appearance puts its all-electric GSE high-performance models centre stage: alongside the GSE 27FE, the new Opel Corsa GSE, which is already available to order, is making its exhibition debut, and the Lightspeed Stripes and the GSE universe are the key sources of inspiration behind the German booth design.

Previously from Opel Automobile GmbH

Opel previously said it would use the Paris Motor Show 2026 to unveil its STX Concept electric estate study and to show its full GSE performance range, led by the Formula E GEN4 car it will race next season. The world premiere of the GSE 27FE's final livery is part of that planned Paris appearance.

Why this matters

The livery reveal is the last major milestone before Opel's first Formula E race, giving fans and rivals a clear look at the car weeks ahead of the season opener. It also ties Opel's electric racing programme to its road cars, with the new Corsa GSE on show in Paris. German fans get a home round in Berlin on May 8 and 9, 2027.
