What Happened
Polestar's 2025 Sustainability Report shows that the company has reduced greenhouse gas emissions per sold car by 31% since 2020. During the same period, Polestar grew annual retail sales to over 60,000 cars, expanded to 28 markets, and added three new models. The reduction is attributed to increased renewable energy in battery production and manufacturing, use of low-carbon materials, and the success of the Polestar 4, the company's lowest-carbon car.

“If you are not reducing emissions while growing, you are choosing not to. Electrification delivers clear value for customers: lower running costs, lower emissions and greater peace of mind.”
Why this matters
The reduction shows that an electric vehicle company can scale its business while cutting its carbon footprint, challenging the notion that growth and climate progress are incompatible.
