Suzuki sets August records for global production and sales as India leads growth
Suzuki's global production and sales both hit record highs for August 2026, powered by record output and sales in India.
- 295,249 units
- 221,599 units (140.1% year on year)
- 286,359 units (119.3% year on year)
- 17,070 units (96.1% year on year)
What Happened
Suzuki Motor Corporation reported record-high global production and sales for August 2026, with both monthly records driven by its operations in India. Global production rose to 295,249 units, 122.1% of the year-earlier level and up for the twelfth consecutive month. Global sales reached 286,359 units, 119.3% year on year, up for the eleventh consecutive month. The company said record-high overseas production and sales for August were the main reason, while production in Japan fell and exports declined.

- Other overseas markets: 57,465 units, 101.2%, up for the ninth consecutive month
Suzuki said Japan's sales decline came from lower minivehicle sales despite record-high standard and small vehicle sales for August, and that production in Japan fell on lower output for both the domestic market and exports. Production at overseas plants outside India was 11,211 units, 90.1% of the year-earlier level, down for the second consecutive month. Exports totaled 17,070 units in August, 96.1% year on year and down for the second consecutive month, which Suzuki attributed to lower complete knocked-down (CKD) exports; the export figures are preliminary. For January to August 2026, global production reached 2,533,992 units (115.9%) and global sales 2,410,232 units (113.2%), while April to August 2026 production was 1,555,437 units (118.1%) and sales 1,507,898 units (120.4%).
Previously from Suzuki Motor Corporation
Suzuki laid out a 10-year technology strategy in September 2026 that aims to roughly double its annual production capacity in India to about 4 million units and to halve new-vehicle development time by 2030. Today's August figures show the Indian operations behind that plan already setting monthly records.

Why this matters
Suzuki's monthly figures show how heavily its global volumes now rest on India: both its production and sales records came mainly from Indian output and domestic wholesales there. Buyers, workers and suppliers in India and Japan are affected in opposite directions, with Indian operations expanding and Japanese production falling for the first time in four months.
