Valeo upgrades Smart Safety 360 to bring Highway Autopilot to mass market

Series production started

October 2025

What Happened

At Auto China 2026, Valeo announced a major functional expansion of its Valeo Smart Safety 360 (VSS360) system. The upgraded system now supports Highway Navigation on Autopilot (NOA), bringing high-end automated driving capabilities to the mass market. The solution has been in series production in China since October 2025 for a major OEM.

By adding Highway Navigation on Autopilot to our solution, we are delivering a high-value, mass-market solution to contribute to safer roads and more comfortable driving for everyone.
Marc Vrecko, CEO of Valeo Brain Division
Traditional ACC vs. NOA
Traditional ACC
Simply maintains speed
NOA
Automatically changes lanes, navigates interchanges, adjusts speed based on map data and traffic flow
Production milestone

October 2025

Series production started in China for a major OEM.

Five core operational modules of NOA
  • Single Lane Driving: steady-state cruising, vehicle following, complete stop
  • Ramp In/Out: smooth merging and diverging trajectories
  • Lane Change: automated maneuvers after assessing safe gaps
  • Intelligent Speed Control: optimal speed from legal limits, curves, navigation
  • Smart Avoidance: navigate around or stop for traffic cones in construction zones

Why this matters

This upgrade makes advanced driver assistance features more affordable, potentially improving road safety and making highway driving easier for everyday car buyers.

Terms in This Story

ADAS
Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems, technologies that help drivers with tasks like parking, lane keeping, and collision avoidance.
Level 2 autonomy
Partial automation where the vehicle controls both steering and acceleration/deceleration but the driver must monitor the road.
ECU
Electronic Control Unit, a computer that controls a specific function in a vehicle.
NOA
Navigation on Autopilot, a feature that allows a vehicle to follow a route on highways with automated lane changes and speed adjustments.
