What Happened
Xpeng has set a 7 p.m. Beijing-time event on September 17 for the G9L's formal arrival in China. Deposits for the SUV have been accepted since August 11.
The large five-seat G9L will come in a pure-battery configuration and a range-extender configuration. Xpeng builds both around an 800-volt vehicle platform.
The evening event follows the pre-sale period and marks the model's formal China introduction. The launch schedule was made public on September 14.
The two powertrain choices let Xpeng address buyers who want a pure-electric vehicle as well as those who prefer an onboard generator to extend the vehicle's operating range.
Why this matters
The launch date moves Xpeng's large five-seat SUV from pre-sale into the delivery phase. Offering battery-electric and extended-range versions gives the G9L two routes into a competitive premium-SUV market.
