XPENG Launches YOYO Robotaxi Platform Powered by Quad In-House Turing Chips
XPENG has branded its autonomous ride-hailing operation as XPENG YOYO, deploying trial passenger reservations through a proprietary mini-program powered by four in-house Turing AI chips.
- 3,000 TOPS
- 4 units
- 2,000 rides
- 2027
What Happened
Customer access commenced via invitation tokens distributed through the brand's booking software, marking the service's shift from employee trials toward commercial availability. The platform targets driverless passenger journeys without safety operators by 2027.
- XPENG GX flagship SUV
- 4 Turing AI processors (3,000 TOPS)
- Vision-only (no LiDAR or HD maps)
Adapted from the flagship GX electric crossover, the purpose-built vehicle houses four bespoke Turing processors generating 3,000 TOPS of compute capacity to drive the VLA 2.0 model. Perception relies entirely on optical camera feeds, omitting physical lidar units and pre-rendered cartography.
Interior amenities include zero-gravity reclining seats with massage functions, dedicated rear infotainment screens, and remote pre-conditioning of cabin temperature and fragrance. Following municipal testing clearances in Guangzhou and more than 2,000 internal demonstration journeys, commercial deployment will combine vehicle sales with platform software subscriptions and operator commissions.
Why this matters
Transitioning to public-facing trials moves XPENG's Level 4 technology from internal research into direct consumer validation. Relying on an end-to-end vision-only stack without lidar or high-definition maps reduces per-vehicle hardware expense, positioning the company for scalable fleet commercialization.
