Allianz Arena Debuts Electric Truck Charging with MAN's Help, Aiming to Be Model for European Stadiums

What Happened
On the bus parking lot of the Allianz Arena in Munich, two electric truck charging stations have gone live, marking a pilot project that could be replicated across Europe. The stations, installed by the arena operator in partnership with MAN Truck & Bus and charging specialist Milence, offer 400 kW each and are located directly at the busy Munich Nord highway junction, which sees up to 10,000 trucks daily.
“Many European stadiums meet all the prerequisites for truck charging infrastructure: large grid connections, low utilization outside event days, sufficient space, and good road network connections at key traffic nodes. The Allianz Arena project shows how such locations can be activated.”

“Our long-term goal is a charging park that serves as a blueprint for other sports venues, especially in Germany. We want to expand the necessary infrastructure so that the switch to electric drives in heavy truck and bus traffic no longer represents a logistical hurdle.”
