What Happened
Danish dairy group Arla Foods has taken delivery of another four fully electric DAF XD Electric trucks, supplied together with a complete charging infrastructure from PACCAR Power Solutions. The fully electric 6x2 rigids will be used to distribute refrigerated dairy products in Denmark. Based in Viby, Arla Foods is one of the world's largest and oldest dairy cooperatives, with roots dating back to the 1880s. The company aims to reduce CO2 emissions from its own operations, which also includes transportation, and the new trucks and charging facility help it take another step towards that goal.

For the 6x2 DAF XD Electric with a 525 kWh battery pack
Last year Arla put its first three XD Electric trucks into operation, and the excellent experiences with those vehicles formed the basis for the decision to order four additional DAF electric trucks. Arla is also putting seven new XD 6x2 rigids with MX-11 diesel engines (330 kW / 450 hp) into operation. All the vehicles are delivered with a DAF MultiSupport Repair & Maintenance contract.
“The all-round visibility, driver comfort and the entry with just two steps make these vehicles the favourites of our fleet. That, combined with their refined driveline, favourable energy consumption and high reliability, made the decision to opt again for a number of XD Electric trucks relatively easy.”
The electric trucks will be charged at a facility in Hobro, Denmark, where Arla operates a dairy plant and where the vehicles will be based. PACCAR Power Solutions is installing a 480 kW power unit there, enabling the fully electric fleet to charge via six high-speed charging points of up to 400 kW each.
“Smart charging starts with insight into the operation. The analyses by PACCAR Power Solutions showed that overnight depot charging is more than sufficient for virtually all of Arla's transport tasks. This keeps energy demand manageable and affordable, while ensuring the electric trucks are ready for operation every morning.”
Previously from DAF Trucks N.V.
DAF has been widening its electric line-up: in September 2026 it added the XG+ Electric plus new axle, chassis and battery layouts for distribution, construction and swap-body work. The XD Electric has also been taken up elsewhere in dairy logistics, with a one-off example styled after DAF's 1996 racing truck set to collect milk for Dutch dairy transporter Van Der Mierden.

Why this matters
Electric trucks are only as practical as the charging behind them, and this deal shows a major food company pairing vehicles with depot charging sized to its routes. For other fleets it is a case study in scaling up: Arla ran three XD Electric trucks first, then ordered four more. It affects Arla's Danish dairy distribution and its goal of cutting emissions from its own operations.
