DAF adds long-haul and construction-ready electric trucks at IAA 2026
DAF is broadening its battery-truck range with the XG+ Electric and new axle, chassis and battery layouts for distribution, construction and swap-body work.
- 315–525 kWh
- up to 500 km
- up to 2.5 tonnes
- up to 350 kW
What Happened
DAF’s IAA Transportation display centres on the XG Electric and larger-cab XG+ Electric for long-distance work. The Dutch truck maker is also showing electric 6x2, 6x4 and 8x4 vehicles aimed at distribution, tipper, construction and demountable-body operations.
The trucks use modular LFP battery packs and PACCAR electric motors. Depending on configuration, the XG models can take three to five packs, with combined capacity of 315 to 525 kWh and charging input of up to 325 kW.
up to 500km
Electrive’s account of the XG Electric and XG+ Electric battery configurations.
A revised battery layout moves as many as four packs behind the cab instead of placing one below it. DAF says that change cuts front-axle load by about 700 kilograms and can lift payload by as much as 2.5 tonnes; its broader electric range can carry up to 500 kilograms more than comparable diesel versions under the company’s stated assumptions.
- The XG and XG+ Electric join DAF’s existing electric truck range.
- Electric 6x2, 6x4 and 8x4 configurations target distribution and construction work.
- A dedicated 4x2/6x2 battery arrangement is designed for German BDF swap bodies.
- The company is pairing the vehicles with charging, storage and connected-service offerings.
The IAA range is part of DAF’s wider Transport Efficiency programme, which also covers driver-assistance, vehicle-monitoring and service tools. The company is presenting the new electric models alongside diesel configurations and comfort features for long-haul drivers.
Why this matters
The additions extend DAF’s electric offer beyond the existing XD and XF into heavier and more specialised applications. The company says the new layouts can combine long-haul range with higher payload, which matters as operators test battery trucks across more duty cycles.
