Bentley Torcal Revives Century-Old Diamond Motif with Floating Grille and Hand-Cut Crystal Displays

Bentley's diamond pattern has been a design signature since the 1920s, originally used as wire mesh to protect radiators from stones and road debris. It soon appeared on interior switches and controls, with machined patterns for grip. Over the decades, the motif evolved and appeared in diamond-stitched seat upholstery, the mesh grille of the Brooklands coupé, and intricate headlamp details in the Bentayga and Continental GT.

What started as a functional engineering solution gradually became one of Bentley's defining design themes. The pattern has appeared everywhere from exterior grilles to interior stitching, showcasing Bentley's evolving 'embedded diamond' design language.

In the new Torcal, this heritage is reimagined with a bold, sculptural floating diamond grille that transforms a functional necessity into a captivating design statement. The grille is described as jewel-like and unmistakably Bentley, unlike anything else on the road.

Inside, the Torcal's digital displays were created using real handcrafted artefacts. Bentley commissioned bespoke hand-cut crystal objects from Cumbria Crystal in England's Lake District. By capturing light passing through the crystal, designers created a distinctive visual signature rich in depth, movement, and texture. The subtle variations and natural imperfections of hand craftsmanship bring warmth and humanity to the digital experience.

The new Bentley Torcal will be revealed in London on 23 September.
