BorgWarner Expands BMS Program for BEV and PHEV Lines with Global OEM

What Happened

BorgWarner has been supplying its battery management system (BMS) to a global original equipment manufacturer (OEM) since 2023. The expanded award will support additional B-segment and C-segment passenger cars, as well as light commercial vehicles, for both battery-electric vehicle (BEV) and plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) applications beginning in 2029. BorgWarner's BMS is a modular system with a central battery monitoring unit (BMU) connected to cell monitoring units (CMUs) that monitor charge level, battery health, temperatures, and cell voltages while performing passive cell balancing. The system supports fast DC charging communication and meets Automotive Safety Integrity Level D (ASIL D) functional safety goals for demanding safety expectations.
