What Happened
Red Bull KTM Factory Racing endured a turbulent Catalan Grand Prix on Sunday. Pedro Acosta started from pole position for the first time this season but an electronic issue led to a collision with Alex Marquez, forcing a red flag. After two restarts, Acosta was eventually taken out of fourth place on the final corner. Brad Binder, forced to start from the pitlane due to a technical issue on the warm-up lap, took advantage of the restarts to climb to seventh. Maverick Viñales scored his first points of the season with 11th, while Enea Bastianini stopped on track due to a loss of power.
Pedro Acosta has an electronic issue out of Turn 9 and is hit by Alex Marquez, causing a red flag.
An accident into Turn 1 halts the race again, leading to a second red flag.
Acosta vies for the lead but is punted out of 4th at the final corner. Binder climbs from 20th to 7th.
Brad Binder finishes 7th, Maverick Viñales 11th, Acosta and Bastianini DNF.
“I took the spare bike after we had the problem on the warm-up lap and was just trying to make some laps. Unfortunately, we had a red flag. On the restart I was up to 8th from 20th: I think it was one of my best starts ever but then we had another restart. I made it up to 9th but managed to blow Turn 1. I had to cut back and then work on catching the dudes in front of me that were fighting for 5th.”
