CATL Forms Supply Alliances to Build 400,000 Tons of Battery Copper Foil Capacity
Contemporary Amperex Technology Co., Limited forged multi-year manufacturing pacts alongside Taijin New Energy and Shenzhen Huike to establish 400,000 tons of specialized anode foil output across three years.

What Happened
The multi-party framework encompasses pooled machinery purchasing, collaborative research programs, coordinated manufacturing buildouts, and renewable electricity sourcing. Under the machinery agreement, Xi'an Taijin New Energy (TJNE) will supply standardized, large-scale hardware to furnish CATL's factory expansion programs, pursuing systemic capital expenditure reductions.
On the raw materials side, the battery maker will partner with Shenzhen Huike and a co-investor to construct 400,000 tons of dedicated foil processing volume within a three-year horizon. Commercial terms introduce a cost-plus pricing formula with locked-in volume off-take commitments and risk-sharing provisions to insulate suppliers against raw material volatility.
To expedite factory construction and equipment commissioning, CATL will disburse upfront financial advances and grant optimized payment terms to its manufacturing partners. The structure transitions conventional transactional component sourcing toward joint operational governance across upstream battery sub-components.
Why this matters
Securing high-volume anode substrate foil shields the world's largest cell manufacturer against upstream material supply crunches and price swings. Transitioning from spot-market orders to a risk-sharing pricing model with upfront financial assistance establishes a resilient domestic battery supply base.
