What Happened
Daimler has grouped India with operations serving Southeast Asia, Australia and Africa in a 42-country structure. The setup covers both BharatBenz and Mercedes-Benz commercial-vehicle activities, with the combined region estimated at about 2.8 billion people.
From India, more than 75,000 vehicles have gone abroad, while parts shipments have reached 330 million units across 70 markets. Daimler cites 400 suppliers and 92 percent local content; the service-network target is 600 outlets in 2030 versus 430 today.
A further Rs 4,000 crore is proposed for Tamil Nadu in a non-final memorandum; if completed, that would take the announced India investment pool past Rs 14,500 crore.
Why this matters
The regional reset gives India responsibility beyond domestic assembly: exports, parts and supplier depth become the operating base for a market covering about 2.8 billion people.
