FOTON Brings Global Expansion Blueprint to IAA With New European Strategy and 13-Millionth Vehicle

FOTON will unveil its new European strategy and celebrate the global delivery of its 13-millionth vehicle at IAA Transportation in Hannover on September 14.

What Happened

FOTON says the commercial-vehicle industry is at an inflection point, shifting toward electrification, intelligence and low-carbon solutions. Europe, with stringent access rules, a mature business environment and diverse transport scenarios, serves as a key benchmark for manufacturers. Chinese commercial-vehicle exports have moved beyond product-only sales into systematic competition covering technology transfer, localised operations and industrial-ecosystem development.

FOTON has engaged overseas markets for more than two decades and says it has ranked first among Chinese commercial-vehicle exporters for 15 consecutive years. It describes its current stage as Globalization 3.0—'going deep, going steady, going far'—a leap from volume-led exports to value-driven globalisation. The company says it has built an export system integrating products, technology, manufacturing, supply chains and service ecosystems.

On technology, FOTON has secured EU market access: multiple battery-electric light-duty trucks and vans hold WVTA (EU Whole Vehicle Type Approval) and heavy-duty models have VECTO carbon-emission certification. CAVAN New Energy products are rolling out across 15 European countries, plus Australia and New Zealand. The company says this translates China's domestic new-energy technology strengths into global green-mobility supply capacity.

FOTON operates 32 local overseas manufacturing facilities across Southeast Asia, Latin America and the Middle East. It has set up a joint-venture supply-chain company with COSCO Shipping Specialized Carriers for dedicated export shipping capacity, and says construction is accelerating at key plants in Indonesia and Saudi Arabia. The European Regional Parts Distribution Centre (RDC) in Unna, Germany is now operational, complementing 18 global parts hubs, more than 1,200 sales outlets and over 1,500 service points to back a 24-hour parts-support system across Europe.

Up 44.3% year on year, which FOTON calls solid validation of its systematic capabilities.

Planned IAA Transportation highlights in Hannover on September 14
  • Launch of FOTON's new European strategy
  • Ceremony marking global delivery of its 13-millionth vehicle
  • Overseas premiere of the CAVAN BEACON intelligent heavy truck, compatible with both battery-electric and hydrogen fuel-cell powertrains
  • Seven new-energy vehicle models
  • Six in-house-developed core components covering mainstream European transport use-cases

FOTON says the display is far more than a product exhibition: it offers a comprehensive showcase of its systematic global-expansion capabilities. As global attention turns to Europe, the continent will get to know FOTON. The company invites attendees to join it on September 14 in Hannover to witness what it calls a new chapter for Chinese commercial-vehicle globalisation.

Previously from Beiqi Foton Motor Co., Ltd.

FOTON's earlier move to open a European parts distribution hub in Unna, Germany, prepared the ground for today's announcement. That hub stocks genuine spares locally, replacing slow seafreight deliveries with rapid parts supply, and now counts as one component of the company's European after-sales infrastructure.

Why this matters

FOTON is moving from shipping vehicles abroad to building a full local ecosystem of technology, manufacturing and after-sales in Europe, and its export growth is evidence that the model works. The company's 149,000 exports in January–August 2026, up 44.3% year on year, and its new European vehicle and parts offerings affect transport operators and buyers who will see more Chinese battery-electric and hydrogen trucks. The IAA event in Hannover on September 14 is where FOTON plans to show that capability.
