Honda reports global production down 4.8% in March 2026, Japan sales fall 8.2%

What Happened
Honda Motor Co., Ltd. reported global automobile production of 313,259 units in March 2026, a 4.8% year-over-year decrease. Japan production rose 9.2% to 66,750 units, its fourth consecutive monthly increase, but production outside Japan fell 8.0% to 246,509 units, a third consecutive monthly decline. For the full fiscal year 2025, worldwide production totaled 3,371,664 units, down 7.3% from the prior year.
In the Japanese market, Honda sold 70,038 vehicles in March 2026, down 8.2% year-over-year, marking a 12th consecutive monthly decline. New vehicle registrations fell 7.4% to 41,543 units, extending a 17-month slide. Mini-vehicle sales dropped 9.4% to 28,495 units. For fiscal 2025, total Japan sales were 609,209 units, down 8.9%, the first annual decline in three years.
Exports from Japan totaled 6,395 units in March 2026, down 2.8% year-over-year. However, for the full fiscal year, exports surged 28.2% to 108,780 units, the first annual increase in two years. Exports to North America declined sharply in March, dropping 79.7% to 591 units, while exports to Europe grew 57.9% to 3,154 units.
