What Happened

Hyundai Motor Group launched its 2026 Happy Move Global Youth Volunteer Program on July 30, 2026, dispatching 200 Korean university students to Indonesia and Vietnam for summer community projects. The students were selected through an open nationwide application. They are working with NGO partners and local university peers on housing, education, and environmental sustainability activities. A total of three separate dispatches run from July 12 through August 16.

Happy Move was established in 2008 and has mobilized more than 13,000 university students across 24 countries over nearly two decades. The program is designed to give young people direct engagement with communities beyond their own, building cross-cultural connections and a sense of shared responsibility. Hyundai Motor Group has maintained a significant manufacturing and business presence in Indonesia and Vietnam for many years, and the 2026 program builds on that presence through partnerships with NGOs and government stakeholders.

2026 Happy Move dispatch schedule
  1. July 12–20

Indonesia Round 1 with Habitat for Humanity in Rajeg, Tangerang: housing construction, interactive learning programs for children, and visits to Hyundai Motor Studio and Hyundai N Brand Experience Center.

  2. July 26–August 3

Vietnam with World Vision in Hai Phong: STEAM and oral hygiene education, school library construction and mural painting, and a visit to Hyundai Thanh Cong Motor Vietnam (HTMV).

  3. August 7–16

Indonesia Round 2 with Plan International in North Jakarta: school renovation, urban greening, climate and waste education, and a visit to Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Indonesia (HMMI).

In Indonesia, volunteers are working with families and schools in the greater Jakarta area on housing construction, sanitation improvements, and education support. The activities align with the country's national affordable housing agenda, which targets construction of three million homes annually, and address environmental priorities such as urban greening, climate awareness, and sustainable waste practices. In Vietnam, volunteers are working with families and children in Hai Phong, a key trade hub, to improve school facilities and expand access to STEAM education in line with the Vietnamese government's national curriculum priorities.

As Happy Move approaches its 20th anniversary, Hyundai Motor Group continues to invest in the people and communities where the Group operates — through education, housing, and environmental action.
Sung Kim, President of Strategy & Planning, Hyundai Motor Group

Local university students from Indonesia and Vietnam join the Korean participants as co-volunteers in both countries, making the program a genuine two-way exchange. Across both countries, Hyundai Motor Group works in close partnership with local and international NGOs to ensure volunteer activities are grounded in each community's specific needs.

Previously from Kia

Kia, part of Hyundai Motor Group, recently handed over its Green Light Project sites in Albania and Zimbabwe, making them the 13th and 14th community-run locations. The handover is part of the wider group's ongoing community-support work.

Why this matters

The program shows how Hyundai Motor Group uses volunteering to support communities where it operates, rather than only selling cars. It directly helps families and schools in the greater Jakarta area and Hai Phong with housing, sanitation, and STEAM education. Local Indonesian and Vietnamese university students join as co-volunteers, turning the trip into a two-way cultural exchange, and the activities are tied to national priorities such as Indonesia's t…
