What Happened
International, part of the TRATON Group, started production of the S13 Integrated Powertrain in October 2023 at its Huntsville factory. The powertrain includes a gearbox first introduced at Scania in late 2021, adapted for North American trucks with higher road speeds and heavier driveshafts. The factory underwent a 10,000-square-meter expansion to house new gearbox assembly lines and machining equipment.

International starts production of the S13 Integrated Powertrain in Huntsville
MAN begins using the Group-common gearbox
- U.S. trucks operate at higher road speeds
- U.S. trucks use heavier driveshafts
“It was a challenging journey, but very positive.”
Why this matters
The project shows how TRATON can share core components across continents, giving International a competitive integrated powertrain made in-house for the first time.
