What Happened

International Motors LLC announced the signing of an Asset Purchase Agreement to sell the operating assets of its Springfield, Ohio facilities to Roshel, a leading defense and commercial vehicle manufacturer. The Springfield plant has long been home to International’s truck assembly and recently was dedicated to contract manufacturing for a major automotive company, a contract that expires on September 30, 2026.

Facility size

2 million sq ftsquare feet

on 500 acres, including full assembly line and paint booth.

With the end of our contract manufacturing agreement, we have been working diligently to find a suitable path for the Springfield Assembly Plant. We have been focused on finding a buyer that values the capabilities of this historic facility and the community. We believe this path forward positions the plant for long-term success, while utilizing the manufacturing expertise developed in Springfield
Samara Strycker, executive vice president and CFO at International

Roshel plans to use the facility as the hub for U.S.-based, vertically integrated production of commercial, special and armored vehicles, with opportunities to expand production with other major commercial vehicle OEMs. The facility's more than 2 million square feet of manufacturing space will allow Roshel to combine the expertise of the Springfield workforce with advanced manufacturing capabilities.

Why this matters

The sale ensures the historic facility will be repurposed after a contract manufacturing agreement expires in September 2026, preserving local manufacturing jobs and enabling Roshel to expand U.S. production of specialized vehicles.
