What Happened
MAN Truck & Bus is presenting the MAN TGS 60.540 8x4 BB at IAA Transportation 2026 for international markets: a mining tipper with a use-specific approval up to 60 tonnes. It is the next tipper generation, building on the 50-tonne model presented in 2023, which is already in service in Latin America and Africa. Around 135,000 mining trucks are in operation worldwide, many of them around the clock, and MAN is expanding its mining solution to go after that business.
MAN builds the F8 tipper with a gross vehicle weight of 48 tonnes.
MAN presents the 50-tonne tipper at the Trucknology Days; it is now in use in Chile, Peru and Africa.

- Reinforced frame and axle guide components
- Two 10-tonne front axles
- Rear axle unit with 20-tonne trapezoidal spring packages per side
- 325/95 R24 tyres on one-piece rims
- Offroad ABS and the MAN TipMatic Offroad driving programme
The 60-tonner is driven by the 12.4-litre MAN D2676 Euro 6e engine with 397 kW (540 PS) and 2,650 Nm of torque, combined with the MAN TipMatic 12.28 OD transmission including a retarder. Its light chassis brings it into the 40-tonne payload class, while the reinforced frame and axle components make it resistant to the loads of open-pit mining. At the IAA, the truck is on show as the MAN TGS INDIVIDUAL LION S, with a black styling package, a roof lamp bar with double-row LED light bars and ambient lighting in the cab.
The 60-tonner will come first as a Euro 6 left-hand-drive version for Chile and Morocco, with Euro 2 to Euro 5 versions for Africa, the Middle East and Latin America to follow. It complements a broad mining portfolio covering every phase of mining, from exploration and development through extraction to renaturation. MAN offers the TGL, TGM, TGS, TGX and TGE as chassis, tippers and semi-truck tractors, from 4x2 to 10x4 and in emission levels from Euro 2 to Euro 6, used in copper, gold, coal, nickel, bauxite and phosphate mines.
- Training on site
- Agreed response times
- Mobile workshops and container-based service stations
- Two-year warranty on MAN Original parts
- A dedicated TCO calculator for mining to help operators keep total operating costs in view
“In mining, every tonne and every hour counts. With the 60-tonner, our customers move high payloads, and our service reaches all the way into the mine.”
Previously from MAN Truck & Bus
Earlier in October, MAN Truck & Bus expanded its MAN Individual range for the MAN TGE, adding an off-road-styled Lion X line and a glossy-black entry package. The same update included a Performance Kit that lifts the TGE's heavy-duty engine from 163 PS to 190 PS.

Why this matters
Mining operators run trucks around the clock, so a vehicle approved to 60 tonnes with a service concept built for remote sites speaks directly to their uptime and cost per tonne. The launch shows MAN pushing into the heaviest end of a global mining truck market of roughly 135,000 vehicles, with initial sales in Chile and Morocco and further variants planned for Africa, the Middle East and Latin America.
Terms in This Story
- Retarder
- An auxiliary braking system, usually integrated with the transmission, that slows a heavy vehicle and takes load off the service brakes.
- TCO (total cost of ownership)
- The full lifetime cost of running a vehicle, including purchase price, fuel, maintenance, tyres and downtime.
- Payload
- The weight of the cargo a vehicle can carry, not counting the weight of the vehicle itself.
- Open-pit mining
- Surface mining in which ore or minerals are extracted from a large open excavation rather than from underground shafts.
