What Happened
Toyota has broadened the Fortuner portfolio in India with the refreshed 2026 Leader Edition, scheduling customer reservations to begin on October 12. Positioned strictly on rear-wheel-drive mechanicals, the manual version commands an ex-showroom tag of ₹36.51 lakh, while the two-pedal alternative carries an ex-showroom cost of ₹38.72 lakh, representing an incremental step of ₹2.21 lakh.

Visual enhancements distinguish the derivative from regular variants through an all-black radiator grille, reworked front bumper cladding accented with silver highlights, raised bonnet badging, and 18-inch rims coated in gloss black. The bodywork features contrast roof paint and darkened rear door trim across three available choices: Attitude Black, Platinum White Pearl, and Super White.
Inside, the vehicle incorporates two-tone black and maroon seat surfaces, cabin ambient illumination, illuminated tread plates, motorized folding side mirrors, and tyre pressure sensors. Mechanical propulsion relies on the brand's established four-cylinder diesel engine, generating 204 hp alongside 500 Nm when linked to a six-speed torque-converter automatic, or 420 Nm when coupled to a six-speed stick shift.
Why this matters
The special edition revitalizes Toyota's top-selling ladder-frame SUV ahead of peak festive vehicle shopping in India. Restricting the trim package to rear-wheel-drive diesel configurations allows the carmaker to capture premium retail interest without adjusting core mechanical components.
