What Happened
At the Caravan Salon 2026 in Düsseldorf, MAN Truck & Bus is presenting the MAN TGE as a versatile platform for camping and motorhome concepts. The company is restructuring its camper program along a three-pillar model: immediately usable leisure vehicles, flexible base vehicles for individual conversions, and professional platforms for motorhome manufacturers and body partners. The vehicles are on display at stand E59 in Hall 16.
The two show vehicles are a MAN TGE 3.160 4x2 with the KombiFree package, an already converted and immediately usable vehicle, and a MAN TGE 3.190 4x4 panel van with camper-specific preparations for further conversion. Both include the innovative Reimo pop-up roof for the first time and exclusively. According to MAN, the roof has the largest cutout currently available for the TGE and significantly increases standing height both when folded out and during travel; it will be offered with manual and electric opening.
The KombiFree package targets customers who want to get in and drive, combining everyday, leisure and camping use. It comes standard with a flexible floor system and airline rails, a three-seat bench in the third row that folds and reclines, insulation, window and side-wall cladding, tinted side and rear windows, and an integrated sound solution. Options include two swiveling individual seats in the second row and a central sliding table. For self-builders, MAN offers the panel van in several lengths and roof variants with up to 18.4 m³ of cargo space, plus the Camper Van base vehicle with factory camper preparations such as air suspension, a lift kit, a second battery, 230-V external power, pop-up roof, driver and passenger swivel seats, awning, transverse sleeper brackets, optimized energy management and motorhome comfort functions.
MAN also offers professional motorhome manufacturers various ways to use the TGE as a base vehicle. Camper-specific panel vans or the Camper Van base vehicle, together with a wide range of configuration options, form a professional motorhome platform. For semi-integrated motorhomes, MAN provides the TGE Windlauf with a flat frame and wide-track axle.
MAN is also introducing 'Lifetime Connectivity' for the TGE at no extra cost to the customer. This covers all digital vehicle services, including online functions and map updates, and makes services like over-the-air updates, a news and weather app, and the digital handbook always available. With the new MAN ID, the free scope expands to include MAN Connect Streaming & Remote: the online voice assistant IDA (ChatGPT), webradio with data volume included, and Spotify (subscription required). The formerly paid MAN EfficientRoute package is now always included, provided the MAN Media Van Navigation or Media Van Navigation Business unit is installed.
MAN Individual is expanding its offerings with three TGE lines: the new Individual Black Package as an entry option, the established Individual Lion S, and the new Individual Lion X. Lion X is characterized by underride protection elements at the front and rear, newly designed wheel arch trims, mirror caps with lion scratches, and a frame at the rear; optional black bull bars and sill pipes underline the off-road look. Performance kits now boost light-duty engines from 177 to 202 PS and, for the first time, heavy-duty engines from 163 to 190 PS.
Why this matters
The European camping and motorhome market is growing, and MAN is restructuring its TGE to serve three distinct customer groups: people who want a ready-to-drive camper, DIY converters, and professional body manufacturers. Free Lifetime Connectivity and map updates cut the cost of ownership, while the exclusive Reimo pop-up roof and new MAN Individual packages expand choices for buyers. The move gives MAN a clearer position in the motorhome business and makes it easier for first-time camper buyers to find the right starting point.
