What Happened
The Maserati GT2 celebrated its racing debut in GT America powered by AWS with two overall victories at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Fielded by Risi Competizione and driven by Peter Dempsey, the No. 100 car won both 40-minute races on Saturday, October 10 and Sunday, October 11. The car was eligible for the SRO3 class thanks to the GT2+ kit, a package developed in conjunction with SRO that enables the Maserati GT2 to race alongside GT3 models. The results marked a winning return to the Brickyard, and the No. 100 also celebrated the centenary of both the Trident logo and Maserati's racing debut.
Wilbur Shaw drove a Maserati 8CTF to back-to-back Indy 500 victories; Maserati remains the only Italian brand to have won the race.
The GT2 appeared at Indianapolis in a static display.
Dempsey's fastest time in qualifying was disallowed, sending him to the back of the grid for Race 1.
Race 1: Dempsey won by 0.307 seconds after passing 2026 SRO3 champion Memo Gidley with less than three minutes remaining, and set the fastest lap to take pole for Race 2.
Race 2: Dempsey led from start to finish and won by 2.702 seconds over Gidley, again setting the fastest lap.
- Started from the back of the grid; won by 0.307 seconds after overtaking Memo Gidley with under three minutes left; set fastest lap
- Started from pole; led from start to finish; won by 2.702 seconds ahead of Gidley; set fastest lap
“To win both races on our GT America debut at Indianapolis is a proud moment for everyone at Maserati. Peter and our partner Risi Competizione delivered an exceptional performance, and these results demonstrate the potential of our Maserati GT2. Returning to this circuit as we celebrate 100 years of both the Trident logo and Maserati's racing debut makes this achievement especially meaningful. We want to give our customers more opportunities to race with Maserati, and this weekend is a critical step in that direction.”
- Developed in conjunction with SRO to make the Maserati GT2 eligible for the SRO3 class in GT America powered by AWS, racing alongside GT3 cars.
- Increases downforce and power through aerodynamic updates and a revised Nettuno engine calibration.
- Includes adaptations to the dampers and braking system.
- Customers can order the kit with a new GT2 or buy it separately to convert an existing car.
The broader Maserati GT2 platform is eligible for more than 20 racing series across five continents. Maserati says it is working with promoters in the United States and Europe to extend eligibility for the GT2+ kit to additional championships, with plans for dedicated trackside technical support and an on-site spare parts service. The Indianapolis victories follow Philippe Prette taking his third title running in the GT2 European Series, after Am class triumphs in 2024 and 2025 at the wheel of an LP Racing Maserati GT2, in a category now known as the Masters Cup.
Previously from Maserati S.p.A.
Maserati has spent 2026 marking 100 years of the Trident emblem, the same centenary the No. 100 car carried at Indianapolis. Our earlier coverage noted that Maserati and RAI Documentari produced a three-part docuseries tracing 100 years of the Trident emblem, airing on Rai 2 on October 11, 18 and 25 at 2 p.m. In September, Maserati closed the Salone Auto Torino 2026 with a centenary display and a parade through Turin's hills, and brought three rare heritage racers from the Panini Collection to Goodwood Revival 2026, whose La Dolce Vita Italian theme set the stage for the centenary. The brand also unveiled GT2 and GT2 Stradale liveries inspired by its 1958 Eldorado at the TUTTO BENE Hillclimb 2026, honoring the same 100 years of the Trident.

Why this matters
The debut double gives Maserati a proven result for the GT2+ kit it sells to customers, the package that makes the car eligible to race alongside GT3 machinery in the SRO3 class. It matters most to Maserati's racing customers and its partner Risi Competizione, and it lands as the brand works with promoters in the US and Europe to open the kit up to more championships.
