Electrification
Kia's PV5, its first Platform Beyond Vehicle, is engineered for modularity, allowing one platform to serve as a passenger van, cargo hauler, camper, or food truck. Journalist Jack Scarlett, who drove it in Seoul and the UK, compared the concept to early coachbuilding, noting that the low floor and E-GMP.S platform make it drive like a car. The PV5 won the 2026 International Van of the Year and set a Guinness World Record for 693.38 km on a single charge with a 665 kg payload. Kia will premiere the larger PV7 at IAA Transportation in Hannover on September 14, 2026. Separately, Hyundai Motor Group signed an MOU with Oman's Ministry of Transport to pilot the ELEC CITY Fuel Cell hydrogen bus in Muscat from Q3 2026 to Q3 2027, and will test a 240kW charger at an Oman Oil station near Muscat. Kia also showcased a flex-fuel Syros prototype in India, capable of running on E100 ethanol, with commercialization pending fuel infrastructure.

Tech Mahindra plans to apply the model across telecom, healthcare, banking, retail, and manufacturing sectors.

The companies will deepen joint development of cell systems and thermal management. Separately, Volkswagen Group's supervisory board approved Future Plan 2030, targeting a 9% operating margin by halving its vehicle lineup and cutting 50,000 jobs, bringing cumulative reductions to 100,000. The plan reviews German production sites and phases out the Seat brand by 2030.

Deals & Partnerships
Hyundai Motor Group signed an MOU with Oman's Ministry of Transport to cooperate on smart city development and eco-friendly mobility under Oman Vision 2040. The agreement includes a pilot for Oman's first hydrogen city bus, the ELEC CITY Fuel Cell, operated by Mwasalat on Muscat routes from Q3 2026 to Q3 2027. Hyundai also signed MOUs with OOMCO and EVO to deploy a 240kW ultra-fast charger at an Oman Oil station in Halban, with testing from Q3 to Q4 2026. The partners will evaluate performance against KPIs to consider expansion.
Regulation & Policy
NHTSA opened an Audit Query to investigate whether Tesla properly self-certified its Cybercab as compliant with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards, following its commercial deployment in Austin. The agency will assess Tesla's technical data and processes for certifying a vehicle without traditional human controls. NHTSA stated that existing standards remain in force while it works to modernize them, and the investigation will confirm current law is followed.
