What Happened
Opel has opened order books for the new Combo Start, the entry-level version of its compact Combo van, at €22,400 in Germany (RRP excluding VAT). That is €1,000 cheaper than the previous entry model. Opel says the Combo Start is aimed at business owners and fleet operators who value a combination of high versatility and maximum cost-effectiveness, and it is available with petrol, diesel or battery-electric drive right from the start.

The driver-oriented cockpit has a new dashboard and new door panels that Opel says improve robustness, ergonomic handling and use of space. The FlexiSeat front passenger seat, described as unique in the segment, is a modular one-person seat that can be folded upwards, increasing load volume by 0.5 m3 and freeing the passenger footwell for packages, tool boxes or other work utensils. The optional ModuTable on the passenger side costs €300 net and can act as a shelf in a mobile office or as a dining table, with a surface usable as a laptop desk, a cupholder for drinks and a safety net below to stop objects sliding towards the driver; it stows behind the cabin wall in the cargo compartment when not in use. Extra storage comes from compartments in the dashboard and a drawer under the driver's seat, while the FlexCargo configuration adds a middle third seat that can be converted or used as a load-through for long items.
The all-electric Combo Start Electric produces 100 kW (136 hp) and uses a 42 kWh usable battery for a locally emissions-free WLTP range of up to 270 kilometres, along with increased payload. Diesel buyers can choose 75 kW (102 hp) or 96 kW (131 hp), while the entry petrol engine makes 81 kW (110 hp); all combustion engines are combined with six-speed manual transmissions, and a 48V hybrid variant will be added from 2027. The van is available in two lengths with a load volume of up to 4.4 m3 and, depending on the drive, up to almost one tonne of payload. Opel states that all data are provisional and that the vehicle is not yet homologated and not yet available.
