What Happened
Porsche is offering inductive charging on the Cayenne Electric for the first time with the new model year. Power crosses a magnetic field between a pad built into the car's floor and a base plate. Electrically operated doors and access to the Paint to Sample programme join the options list for the same model year. Both the classic SUV and the Cayenne Coupé Electric get the update. The announcement was dated 16 September 2026.
Three parts make up the setup. There is hardware preparation on the car itself, a pad attached to the vehicle, and a ground pad that goes in the parking space where the car sits. That ground pad is weatherproof, so it can sit outdoors as well.
11kW
Energy is transferred at roughly 90 per cent efficiency.
There is no cable to handle. The car is positioned over a ground pad that Porsche fits permanently in the parking space, and charging begins automatically. Porsche calls the feature Wireless Charging.
A pair of safeguards watches the process: movement sensors and metal-object checks. Charging halts automatically if a living creature approaches either the car or the ground pad. It also stops when a metallic object resting on the pad starts to heat up.
- Customers can order it now in Germany and across Europe
- The worldwide rollout is being handled in stages
- Porsche plans to offer it in every country that has Porsche Connect
- China is outside the planned rollout
Why this matters
Wireless charging lets a driver skip the cable entirely: park over a pad and the car starts taking power on its own. Porsche is offering it factory-fitted on the Cayenne Electric, which means buyers in Germany and elsewhere in Europe can add it now, while other regions wait for a staged rollout. China is excluded.
Terms in This Story

- The part of a wireless charging setup that sits on the parking surface and sends power up to the vehicle.
- Foreign object detection
- A safety feature that spots metal or other items on a charging pad and cuts the power if they start to heat up.
