What Happened
Under the cooperation framework, the two enterprises will design vehicle-specific battery management controllers and compact Integrated PowerBox units that merge high-voltage electronics with electromechanical assemblies.
The technical collaboration originates from an existing commercial vehicle client contract in Europe, with long-term plans to scale modular solutions across global passenger and commercial vehicle architectures.
Schaeffler supplies hardware architecture, embedded software development, safety compliance, and European validation facilities, while CATL provides electrochemical cell models, algorithmic state estimators, and large-scale industrialization capabilities.
Beyond physical control units, the joint engineering roadmap encompasses cloud-connected telemetry and machine learning models to monitor cell degradation and thermal profiles over vehicle service lifecycles.
